چکیده

This chapter introduces a framework and a methodology to manage a SaaS application on top of a PaaS infrastructure. This framework utilizes PaaS policy sets to implement the SaaS provider’s elasticity policy for its application server tier. Adaptation is based on strategytrees, which allow for systematic capture, representation and reasoning about adaptation variability, based on hierarchically organizing di↵erent levels of temporal granularity. Thus, a strategy-tree is utilized at the SaaS layer to actively guide policy set selection at runtime in order to maintain alignment with the SaaS provider’s business objectives. This way, the SaaS provider’s attitudes and preferences reflecting their general business needs are incorporated into the adaptation mechanism in an organized and accessible manner. Results from an experiment conducted on a real cloud are presented in support of this approach.

Towards Holistic Cloud Management

Despite significant attention and substantial efforts both in industry and academia, cloud computing has yet to reach its full potential. Commonly stated obstacles for cloud adoption include confusion due to multiple delivery models (SaaS, PaaS, IaaS) and deployment scenarios (public clouds, private clouds, cloud bursting etc.). Other frequent concerns relate to risks with outsourcing, data leg...

Towards Operational Cost Minimization in Hybrid Clouds for Dynamic Resource Provisioning with Delay-Aware Optimization using minimizing communication cost algorithm

Recently, hybrid cloud computing paradigm has be widely advocated as a promising solution for Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) providers to effectively handle the dynamic user requests. With such a paradigm, the SaaS providers can extend their local services into the public clouds seamlessly so that the dynamic user request workload to a SaaS can be elegantly processed with both the local servers a...

Software as a Service - Common Service Bus (SAAS-CSB)

Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) is a form of cloud computing that relieves the user from the concern of hardware, software installation and management. It is an emerging business model that delivers software applications to the users through Web-based technology. Software vendors have varying requirements and SaaS applications most typically support such requirements. The various applications used...

Efficient Resource Allocation and Scheduling in Cloud Computing Environment

The cloud architecture is usually composed of several XaaS layers—including Software as a Service (SaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS) and Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS). The previous work studies efficient resource allocation to optimize objectives of cloud users, IaaS provider and SaaS provider in cloud computing. This work proposes the composition of different layers in the cloud, such a...

A Hypergraph Partition Based Approach to Dynamic Deployment for Service-Oriented Multi-tenant SaaS Applications

In a service-oriented multi-tenant SaaS application, all tenants share services and user requests of the service change dynamically. In order to provide high-quality web services, we must solve the problem of the load unbalance caused by dynamic user requests’ change. This paper proposes an approach based on hypergraph partition to keep load balance for serviceoriented multi-tenant SaaS applica...
